Buffalo, NY – This week some of the top guitarists from around the world are in Buffalo for the third biennual JoAnn Falletta International Guitar Concerto Competition. But the competition stage looks a little different this year. For the first time, the list of semi-finalists included three female guitarists.
One of the women, Laura Klemke, made it to the finals round.
Falletta, who is the competition's namesake, is herself a concert guitarist. WBFO's Joyce Kryszak talked with the women competitors about overcoming the macho guitarist stereotype.
She also had a conversation with the competition's founder, BPO Music Director JoAnn Falletta. She shared her thoughts on what the competition means to her - and what she hopes it will mean to the concert guitar world.
