Buffalo, NY – Buffalo ReUse is taking its idea of reverse construction to a national audience. The Sundance Channel will showcase Buffalo ReUse Tuesday night on the cable program, "Big Ideas for a Small Planet."
WBFO first told you the story of Buffalo ReUse and their big ideas about recycling last fall. Since then, the not-for-profit agency has de-constructed, rather than demolished, 17 houses. And they have set up a huge warehouse on the east side where the salvaged materials are sold.
Now, the local group and their bold sustainable concept are being featured on cable television. Micahel Gainer is Executive Director for Buffalo ReUse. He said the show dovetails beautifully with their other efforts to spread the word about building reuse.
Even before the television exposure, the work of Buffalo ReUse already was getting noticed. The Urban Land Institute recently nominated the fledgling organization for the prestigious Sustainable Cities Award. Although not chosen as a winner, Buffalo ReUse will be recognized at the awards ceremony in London.
And Buffalo's Community Foundation has awarded Buffalo Reuse with a grant to create greenspace throughout the city. Gainer said the project is the perfect addition to the big picture of their mission to improve communities.
