Buffalo, NY – Officials with the United States Attorney's office in Buffalo are not commenting on the arrest of suspected terrorist Jaber Elbaneh. According to the Washington Post, the at-large member of the Lackawanna Six was jailed Sunday in Yemeni.
He was ordered to jail there after a published report said he was living under the personal protection of Yemeni president Ali Abdullah Saleh. Elbaneh escaped from the same prison in 2006. He has remained free waiting an appeal in his ten-year conviction in Yemeni for his involvement in attacks on foreign oil workers.
However, Yemen has refused to turn over Elbaneh to the U.S. to face 2003 terrorism charges connected with the Lackawanna Six case. A spokesperson with the local U.S. attorney's office said they have no comment on the Washington Post report.
