Buffalo, NY – A stand off along the Niagara Section of the Thruway ended peacefully Monday night in Buffalo.
The 190 was shut down for three hours in both directions at Ontario Street as a man held police at bay with a loaded hand gun.
State Police pulled over a vehicle driven by 66 year old James Gilchriese after 6 P.M. Monday night for what was reported to be a domestic dispute with the woman he was riding with. But when Gilchriese emerged from his car he displayed a gun. Police shut down the 190 for fear he would fire the weapon.
The incident lead to a three hour stand off with the SWAT Team and State Police. The woman in his vehicle, 51 year old Patricia Meckley, is also from Florida. She was safely pulled from the scene by police.
