Buffalo, NY – Erie County District Attorney Frank Clark says he will not run for re-election. The three-term incumbent made the announcement during a news conference late Monday afternoon. Frank Clark said he's leaving office for health reasons. He said he suffers from lupus, which is triggered by stress, and that he had a flare up over the weekend.
Clark has received some criticism in the past year in cases involving the exoneration of Anthony Capozzi and Lynn DeJac of the crimes for which they each served a significant amount of jail time. In DeJac's case, Clark dropped the charges only after a controversial ruling by medical examiners that her 13-year-old daughter died of a cocaine overdose and was not murdered. But after 12 years in office, even legal adversaries like defense attorney Rodney Personius expressed their admiration for Clark.
Clark says he may be leaving the DA's office but that he is not retiring. Clark is not sure what he'll do though he does say teaching is an option.
