Buffalo, NY – Advocates for the homeless gathered in Buffalo Thursday to challenge local elected leaders to do something about the city's high rate of poverty.
The Homeless Alliance called on Mayor Brown and County Executive Chris Collins to create a task force that would develop policies addressing poverty.
Also Thursday, several people who participated in a poverty challenge described their experiences in trying to live on a poverty budget of $9.25 a day. County Legislature Majority Leader Maria Whyte says she was struck by how hard it is.
The federal government ranks Buffalo as the second poorest big city in America.
