Amherst, NY – The Amherst Town Board Monday night postponed its scheduled vote on a proposal for a controversial business development on Maple Road.
The Amherst Town Center project has sharply split the community. Arlene Merowitz was among the full house at the meeting, expressing her opposition to the plan.
"We have terrible drainage and sewage problems," Merowitz said. "There are terrible traffic problems that will just be exacerbated by this project."
But supporters like Robert Portin say the project is good for the town.
"This particular development is the kind of development we want to see in our area," Portin said. "It's the kind of development that will increase tax revenue."
The town board has rescheduled the vote for its June 2nd meeting.
