Buffalo, NY – Buffalo State administrators say a lap-top computer containing sensitive information from current and former students has been stolen.
The laptop belonged to SunGard, a computer consulting company that works with Buffalo State. The laptop had the names and social security numbers of 16,000 current and former students.
School officials are working with SunGard to identify the students and will then notify each in writing through the mail. Students who do not receive a letter are not affected.
SunGard says there are no confirmed reports of fraud or identity theft at this time. Concerned students are urged to contact the nation's three credit reporting agencies to place a free fraud alert on their files.
