DeJac Sues, Delano Placed on Paid Leave

By Mark Scott

Buffalo, NY – Lynn DeJac is suing New York State for wrongful imprisonment. A lawsuit was filed Friday that seeks $14.5 million.

All charges against DeJac were officially dropped last month after the District Attorney announced her daughter died of a cocaine overdose and was not murdered.

DeJac had served 14 years in prison for the death.

The police detective who helped exonerate DeJac will be placed on administrative leave with pay.

Dennis Delano was suspended by Police Commissioner McCarthy Gipson for releasing evidence from the DeJac case to the media.

His 30 day suspension without pay was due to end Saturday. Gipson had to either return Delano to active duty or place him on paid leave.
