Buffalo, NY – The Iraq War and Democratic politics get no confidence votes from US Senator Charles Schumer. The Senator was in Buffalo Wednesday and weighed in on the deteriorating national and international theaters.
There was some hope on the horizon. Violence slowed and troop withdrawals are scheduled. But that was before the death toll climbed beyond four thousand and violence again began mounting.
General David Petraeus is recommending a pause in the draw down. But Schumer says his recent trip to Iraq did little to convince him there has been any real progress.
Schumer says that's not a reflection on the troops who are doing a great job. But he says with no political success, there's no reason to stay.
Back on the home front, Schumer also expressed displeasure for the lack of political progress within his own party. Schumer says he believes both Senators Clinton, whom he supports, and Obama would both be good presidents. But he says they both should lay down their arms and get busy proving it to the public.
Schumer says he's hopeful that a candidate will emerge after the Pennsylvania primary.
