Two Youth Programs Win Brighter Future Grants

By Eileen Buckley

Buffalo, NY – The first round of Erie County's Brighter Future Fund Grants will benefit city youth.

County Executive Chris Collins delivered the funds to the Buffalo Inner City Ballet and Holy Cross Youth Center Computer Laboratory Monday. Collins issued a $7,000 check to the ballet's Executive Director Marvin Askew.

Collins and his deputy county executive have donated their pay to the Brighter Future Fund. They are working for just $1.00 per month until the county control board returns to an advisory role.

Collins says this is freeing up funding for the grants for small non-profit organizations. A separate check for $5,700 was also awarded to the Holy Cross Parish computer lab. This program is is set up as a resource for local children and families who lack a home computer.
