Storm Brings Ice But Not Much Pain

By Mark Scott

Buffalo, NY – A number of schools, including all Buffalo Public Schools, closed Wednesday because of overnight ice accumulations on area roadways.

The winter storm warning was canceled around 10:30am. The National Weather Service says about an inch or two of sleet and snow accumulated throughout the region with about a half-inch of ice.

There were some scattered power outages from the ice storm, but not the widespread problems utilities were preparing for. Conditions were worse in the eastern end of the state where 17,000 utility customers are without power.

Buffalo Niagara International Airport was closed for a time Tuesday evening, but most flights were arriving and departing from the airport by Wednesday afternoon.
