Buffalo, NY – A pilot project kicks off Monday on the City's lower West Side to tackle illiteracy. The Boys and Girls Club of Buffalo and Literacy Volunteers of Buffalo and Erie County are teaming up to teach adults to read.
Adult drop-in tutoring will be held every Monday and Wednesday at the Boys and Girls Beecher Clubhouse on 10th Street on the City's West Side. Literacy Volunteers will provide the free tutoring for adults who can not read. Tracy Diina is Executive Director of Literacy Volunteers. She says higher poverty levels on the City's lower West Side means higher levels of illiteracy among adults.
