Buffalo, NY – The woman who led the fight to uncover toxic chemicals at Love Canal in Niagara Falls is still hard at work. WBFO'S Eileen Buckley talked to Lois Gibbs about her current work almost 30 years after Love Canal.
In the summer of 1978 Gibbs and other residents discovered that they were living next to more than 20 thousand tons of toxic waste at Love Canal.
Occidental Chemical, formerly Hooker Chemical, was responsible for discharging those dangerous toxins. Gibbs says she has every intention of returning to Western New York this summer to "celebrate" the 30 anniversary of Love Canal.
