Police Commissioner's Half-Brother Charged with Murder in Pennsylvania

By Mark Scott

Buffalo, NY – Buffalo Police Commissioner McCarthy Gipson's half-brother, Donald Gipson, has been arrested in a long-unsolved stabbing murder in northwestern Pennsylvania.

Pennsylvania State Police have charged 54-year-old Donald Gipson with killing another Buffalo resident, 81-year-old Louis Jones, on September 16th, 1996.

Police found the men in a wrecked car along Route 62 in Warren County. Investigators later determined Jones died of a stab wound, not the crash.

Police say Donald Gipson told them he and Jones had been carjacked. But police say new evidence links Gipson to the killing. He was taken into custody at his Buffalo home Thursday.

Police Commissioner Gipson issued a statement to WBFO News late Thursday saying he is "shocked and dismayed" to hear of his half-brother's arrest. He says the process must now play itself out. The Commissioner says neither he or his department was involved in any phase of the investigation.
