Buffalo, NY – The county's top fiscal watchdog is coming down hard on the Erie County Medical Center Corporation.
County Comptroller Mark Polancarz says an audit by his office reveals the hospital failed to follows internal controls. He says he was most concerned with ECMC's failure to disclose the cost of a media campaign created to influence the Berger Commission's recommendations on hospital closings. Polancarz says the hospital tried to hide the cost by having its legal counsel pay for so it wouldn't have to disclose it publicly.
Erie County Medical Center officials says the audit is politically motivated.
