Caffeine Boost for Blood Donors

By Eileen Buckley

Buffalo, NY – The American Red Cross is offering a little caffeine boost for blood donors this month. The organization has teamed up with Dunkin' Donuts for a new program called a "Pint for a Pound".

The American Red Cross say January is a tough month through out the Northeast when it comes to getting enough blood donations. So as an incentive, anyone who donates a pint of blood this month will receive a voucher for a free pound of Dunkin' Donuts coffee.

Mary Grupka is district director of the American Red Cross Blood Services for the New York-Penn-Region. Grupka says it is always a challenge to find ways to entice new donors to step forward.

In the Buffalo Niagara region, the goal will be to give away 35-hundred pounds of coffee.
