Buffalo, NY – The Buffalo Common Council Wednesday approved the transfer of the long-vacant Memorial Auditorium to the Erie Canal Harbor Development Corporation, for $1.
The Corporation will oversee the demolition of the Aud, to create space for a new Bass Pro and other waterfront businesses.
Common Council President David Franczyk has fond recollections of the shuttered arena.
"It's a building of memories," Franczyk said. "I remember old Sabres games where the players didn't wear helmets or facemasks."
In other action, the Council approved a measure allowing Buffalo police personnel to provide security at the downtown Buffalo Creek Casino, in exchange for financial reimbursement by the Seneca Nation of Indians.
