Buffalo, NY – The National Weather Service says a heavy snow warning will remain in effect until 7'o'clock Thursday evening for Southern Erie, Chautauqua, Cattaraugus and Allegany Counties. That includes Orchard Park, Springville, Jamestown and Olean.
Snow is expected to move across the Southern Tier and increase in intensity as it spreads to the North and East by Noon time Thursday. Snowfall rates of one to two inches per hour are expected and could last for several hours. Six to ten inches of snow is possible in those warning areas.
A snow advisory is in effect until 7'o'clock Thursday evening for Northern Erie, Niagara, Orleans and Genesee Counties. That includes Buffalo and Niagara Falls.
The National Weather Service says the snow fall rate could approach one inch per hour and will pose travel difficulties across the advisory area. Three to six inches of new snow is expected.
WBFO'S Eileen Buckley spoke to National Weather Service meteorologist Bill Hibbert a short time ago. He says the snow will actually tapper off this afternoon.
