Governor Weighs in on Proposed Toll Debate

By Eileen Buckley

Buffalo, NY – Governor Eliot Spitzer says the State Thruway Authority needs to justify spending before it can increase tolls.

Reporters asked Governor Spitzer to weigh in on the toll hike debate while appearing in Western New York Thursday. Spitzer is not taking sides, but the Governor did says he believes a toll hike should be put off until the Authority addresses a number of financial concerns.

The Spitzer Administration issued a letter to the Authority requesting answers to spending questions.

Spitzer says he is also waiting for the results of an audit on Thruway Authority spending from the State Comptroller.
