Buffalo, NY – The Buffalo Board of Education was briefed Wednesday evening on a recent court decision that requires the district to place all employees at the salary steps they lost while the city's wage freeze was in effect.
That could cost the city and its school district $130 million over the next four years.
Schools Superintendent James Williams said earlier this week the court ruling could force the district to lay off 641 employees.
The school board has until December 20th to file an appeal.
Meanwhile, the "Buffalo News" is reporting this morning that the Buffalo Teachers Federation has called a halt to contract talks with the district. BTF President Phil Rumore says Williams has launched a public fear campaign by threatening teacher layoffs.
