Buffalo, NY – Recent groundbreaking research by a scientist at Buffalo's Hauptman-Woodward Institute will be key in targeting therapies for diseases ranging from cancer to AIDS.
Senior research scientist Dr. Dan Gewirth solved the structure of a protein called GRP 94. It is a central player in other proteins of the cell. Gewirth says the discovery is groundbreaking because these are high resolution structures that offer a detail picture. But mainly because they are from the same family of proteins known as HSP 90.
Gewirth's discovery was published in an issue of Molecular Cell last month, one of the top five medical journals in the word.
