Falls Air Base Improvement Moved Up

Niagara Falls Air Reserve Station

By Eileen Buckley

Niagara Falls, NY – Rep. Louise M. Slaughter (D-NY-28) says a key piece of construction of at the Niagara Falls Air Base has been moved up by several years.

Slaughter says she has been assured by a U-S Air Force General that the dinning hall at the Falls base will be built before 2009 instead of the year 2015.

Congress woman Slaughter says improvements to the base are key to keeping it operating in the future.

"What I am trying to do is get as many things loaded up on the Falls base as I can. There will be another BRAC round in 2013 and we want to be prepared," said Slaughter.

Slaughter says her conversation with General Bradley went well. "I expressed my concern again, that by law, they have to give us more planes. He expressed to me, two or three times, that he understands the obligation and they are going to do right for Niagara," said Slaughter.

More C-130's planes will be provided to the Falls air base to replace the tankers. Slaughter says an answer on the planes could come by the end of this month. Slaugther will be seeking $7 million in appropriations for construction of the dinning hall.
