Buffalo, NY – Attention aspiring young film makers. If Michael Moore and Ken Burns are your heroes, Squeaky Wheel invites you to apply for the third year of the "Buffalo Youth Media Institute."
The nine month-long program is designed for teenagers who perhaps have dreamed of making a documentary, but aren't sure how to go about it. About 40 selected Western New York teens are given the tools and the guidance needed to tell stories of the history and culture of the city through documentary film making.
This year, aspiring young film makers are asked to submit applications with their ideas for a documentary highlighting Buffalo's East Side. Jacqueline Farris is Director of the Youth Media Institute. She said there is a myriad possibilities teens can explore.
Farris said teens are up to the challenge. She said those involved in previous programs delivered poignant, well-produced pieces with relatively little help learning the craft of filmmaking. Farris said there are lessons here for Buffalo leaders as well. She said teens have a strong voice on many issues and simply need a venue to be heard.
Teens do not need to have any experience in film making to apply. There is more information on the project and how to apply on the web site at wwww.squeaky.org. The deadline for applications is October 3rd.
