Buffalo, NY – Another crow and four mosquito pools in Erie County have tested positive for the West Nile virus.
Erie County Health officials are urging residents to guard against mosquito bites. They say that surveillance trapping has found an increased number of mosquitos in recent weeks. The West Nile virus was found in four mosquito pools in Amherst. A crow in Cheektowaga also tested positive.
Health Commissioner Anthony Bllittier said it is a reminder that people need to stay vigilant against the virus that is resurfacing after a long, dry summer.
Billittier said residents should take precautions to protect themselves from the mosquitos. He said to remove standing water, wear long sleeves and pants during the evening and use DEET bug repellent.
