Buffalo, NY – Western New Yorkers are being urged to ignore conservation for one night and burn a little extra electricity. Communities will be keeping their lights on Tuesday night for National Night Out Against Crime.
The event was founded so neighbors could show a visible sign of unity against crime in their communities. But it also brings neighbors together to talk about real strategies for preventing crime.
Buffalo Mayor Byron Brown says its a throw-back to a time long ago when people in urban environments took time to really know their neighbors. Brown says National Night is a chance for people to bring back that tradition and fight crime.
As he visits various gatherings around the city, Brown says he'll also be listening. He says residents tell him their concerns and make suggestions about how the administration can make the community safer and better.
