Buffalo, NY – South Buffalo native Patrick Kane was honored Tuesday by Mayor Byron Brown for being the top pick in this year's NHL draft. He'll be playing for the Chicago Blackhawks next season.
Kane received the key to the city from the mayor.
The 18-year-old hockey phenom says all the attention from the media and public is somewhat overwhelming.
"The past couple of weeks have just been a whirlwind experience with the Chicago camp, and the draft and everything," Kane said. "But I think that my success all started in Buffalo, and I wouldn't be here without my family and all my supporters."
Kane will remain in Buffalo this summer training at a local gym before heading off to Chicago.
