Lockport Delphi Workers Overwhelmingly Rejected Deal

By Eileen Buckley

Lockport, NY – Delphi workers in Lockport overwhelmingly rejected a tentative contract agreement designed to help the bankrupt company. But nationwide results are expected to be released Friday. The contract calls to slash wages in order to preserve jobs.

United Auto Workers Local 686 president Paul Siejack says of the more than 1,300 local Delphi workers who actually cast their vote Wednesday, only 274 voted in favor of the deal.

The contract was rejected locally by a little more than 1,100 workers. Siejack says he is not surprised that the Lockport workers turned it down. He says members are angry that the contract would mean big pay cuts for many workers to save the bankrupt company, while top management walks away with bonuses.
