Buffalo Fire Union says Radio Host Promoted Arson

By Eileen Buckley

Buffalo, NY – The Buffalo Fire fighters union is accusing a local radio talk show host of promoting arson. Fire union president Joe Foley says Tom Bauerle, who works for Entercom Communications has incited arson.

On June 7th, during a live, on-air talk show to discuss poorly maintained properties in Lockport, Bauerle made a statement to a caller from Depew that he should take gasoline and matches to unkept property.

Entercom issued a written statement. It said the comment in question was an "off-hand" remark made during a program in which Bauerle called on local governments to take problems of blight and neglect more seriously.

The statement also indicates that the show aired before a rash of recent vacant house fires in Buffalo, including the one that seriously injured firefighter Mark Reed.
