Buffalo, NY – A long-time North Buffalo high school is expanding. A ground breaking was held at Holy Angels Academy on Shoshone Drive and Hertel Avenue Tuesday morning for a new athletic and performance center.
It is a $2.2 million project that has been in the works for the last four years. School Principal JoAnne Grippi says the new facility will allow Holy Angels to double its size.
Grippi says the project also shows the school's commitment to re-growth along Hertel Avenue.
"We're investing in the Hertel renaissance," Grippi said. "We feel very strongly that Hertel is a great neighborhood. We feel the commercial end of this neighborhood is going to be redeveloped. We want to redevelop the educational end of of it."
The school has been in North Buffalo since 1929.
The new facility will feature a gym, locker rooms, classrooms, offices and a clinic. The new building will allow the school to host its own home games.
