Buffalo, NY – Communication and security vendors gathered at the Albright Knox Art Gallery Tuesday to hear details about the city's municipal Wi-Fi service and video surveillance equipment needs. About 50 vendors heard city officials lay out requirements for a promised municipal wireless Internet service.
Administration officials do not have a pricing plan yet, but trust the competitive market-place will drive high quality service at low rates.
Police Commissioner McCarthy Gipson says part of the system will support new surveillance cameras in high crime neighborhoods. He says cameras should be able to make out faces and license plates at great distances.
Gipson says they won't be prying into the homes of residents. He says the cameras will only be used to survey the public domain.
