Buffalo, NY – About 60-thousand utility customers across upstate New York were without power Monday morning.
The wet, heavy snow that began falling across the region Sunday night has also forced some schools in the eastern half of the state to call off classes.
Snowfall totals vary from just a couple of inches in the Albany area to nearly a foot of new snow in the eastern Adirondacks.
The National Weather Services has issued flood warnings for some areas as the rain is expected to continue throughout the day.
The immediate Buffalo area has so far escaped the brunt of the storm. A winter weather advisory remains in effect for Southern Erie, Cattaraugus, Chautauqua and Wyoming Counties through 6:00 Monday evening. Two to five inches of snow are possible in the Southern Tier, and visibility may be poor at times.
Metro Buffalo could see one to three inches of accumulation, though as of mid-morning, the precipitation was still falling as rain.
