Buffalo, NY – Anthony Capozzi continues his readjustment to society after 22 years in prison for a crime he did not commit.
Easter Sunday, Capozzi attended Mass at Holy Angels Church in Buffalo and spent the holiday with his family in their West Side home for the first time in many years.
"It is the first time I have been in church in many years, many years. Holy Angels is a beautiful church," said Capozzi.
In the largest family gathering in 22 years, 24 members of the Capozzi family gathered for dinner at his parents' house. Despite his long incarceration, Capozzi says he's not angry over the experience.
"I'm not angry at all. I'm glad to be home, glad and love to be home," said Capozzi.
Capozzi was diagnosed as schizophrenic several years before his incarceration and received some treatment during his years in prison. His sister, Pam Guenther, hopes that some day he will be able to live on his own. Capozzi is back at the Buffalo Psychiatric Center where his evaluation continues.
