Buffalo, NY – Governor Eliot Spitzer appeared in Buffalo Wednesday to talk about an increase in state education aid for city schools.
Spitzer and Lieutenant Governor David Paterson are hitting the road to discuss the recently passed state budget. They appeared at the Campus West School at Buffalo State College. The city school district will receive a 9.6% increase in state aid this year.
Spitzer said the state will continue to work with the school district to improve student performance by providing help in areas that will better prepare students.
"It will lay out certain objectives and accountability standards on how the money will be spent and where we expect to see performance moving," Spitzer said. "We need to ensure the money is being used well."
City Schools Superintendent James Williams says the district will receive a $46 million increase in state funding. Williams says the funds will allow the City to extend the school day and add more music, art, physical education and foreign language classes.
