Competency Hearing for Suspect in Women's Disappearance

By Joyce Kryszak

Buffalo, NY – A competency hearing will be held for the prime suspect in the disappearance of two elderly Southtowns women.

At a pre-trial hearing Tuesday, Robert Henchen's attorney requested and was granted an evaluation to determine if he is mentally fit to go forward in the case against him. Right now, Henchen is only facing charges in an unrelated house burglary. But prosecutors believe he is linked to the two women who have been missing from Colden and Marilla since December. Their bodies have not yet been found.

Erie County District Attorney Frank Clark says the competency hearing does has the potential to further frustrate the case.

Henchen is being held on $100,000 bond.
