Buffalo News – Buffalo is about to play host to the Big Easy. Dozens of legendary and innovative bands from New Orleans will make their way north over the next year for a series nine concerts. Proceeds from the concerts will be used to buy musical instruments for schools in Buffalo and Niagara Falls.
WBFO's Joyce Kryszak talked with Robby Takac of the Goo Goo Dolls about his passion for music education and for the music makers of New Orleans.
The bass player for the Goo Goo Dolls takes kind of a quiet, behind the scenes role with the band. And as a producer and promoter, Takac readily pushes undiscovered local talent to the forefront too. But with some things Takac refuses to stand back or be quiet.
His Music is Art Foundation is one expression of his efforts to make sure kids have access to music. And he has pretty strong words on politics - one issue being the plight of the people and musicians of New Orleans. So, when Takac was asked to help secure the grant for the Big Easy project, he says it was easy to say yes.
