Threat of Police Job Action Easing

By Mark Wozniak

Buffalo, NY – The threat of a police work slowdown this weekend may be easing.

Police Commissioner H. McCarthy Gipson has issued an order denying requests for single days off, effective today. According to a report in Wednesday's "Buffalo News," the order has resulted in some officers withdrawing their already submitted requests for time off this week.

Another factor opposing the so-called "blue flu" is a letter to officers, urging them to stay on the job. Lieutenant John King's letter says negative community reaction to a police job action could hamper fundraising efforts for wounded police officer Patricia Parete.

Some disgruntled officers continue their call for the protest at an unofficial police web site.
