Unusually Cold March Weather

By Eileen Buckley

Buffalo, NY – Very cold weather gripped the Buffalo Niagara region Tuesday morning.

Bitter wind chills are making it feel well below zero.

National Weather Service Metrologist Dave Sage tells WBFO News the region is affected by one of the coldest Arctic air masses of the season.

An early morning reading of zero broke the old temperature record of one-above that was set on this date in 1901.

"It slid down across the area overnight," Sage said.

Sage says this cold weather will continue throughout the day.

The bitter cold forced the Buffalo Public School District to close for an unprecedented tenth day this winter. Many rural districts also closed.

Sage says temperatures will begin rising by the end of this week, reaching the mid 40s by Saturday.
