Buffalo, NY – The Buffalo Police Department wraps up an ambitious recruitment drive for its upcoming police exam Friday.
Police Commissioner McCarthy Gipson says more than 2,000 people have applied to take the test next month.
A slick recuritment campaign was created, including a Web site, to encourage Western New Yorkers to consider a career in law enforcement. An on-line video features a couple of officers talking about the benefits and pay. A focus of this campaign was to entice more women and minorities to consider a career as a city cop.
Police officers have acted as ambassadors for this recruitment effort. Officer Donna Benitez-Ross joined the department about nine years ago. She is now at the downtown B District station. She helped answer a number of questions about the job, especially from women who don't feel they are strong enough.
The exam will be administered April 7th.
