School Board Launches Ethics Investigation of Hernandez

By Mark Wozniak

Buffalo, NY – The Buffalo Board of Education Wednesday night voted to conduct an ethics investigation of West District Board Member Ralph Hernandez.

At issue is an education conference Hernandez attended last October. Fellow board member Jack Coyle says he traveled with Hernandez to the conference in New York. Coyle says he didn't see him at any sessions.

"I, for one, went to many meetings. I didn't see Ralph at any," Coyle said. "That doesn't mean he didn't go to any. I just didn't see him."

Hernandez says he did nothing wrong.

"My wife and I attended the conference. Jack Coyle and his wife and child attended the conference. As far as I'm concerned, I did absolutely nothing wrong," Hernandez said

After a brief discussion in the meeting, the board went into a closed door executive session.

Hernandez had introduced a resolution Wednesday night to fire Schools Superintendent James Williams after a confrontation between the two men last week. The other eight board members say they are supportive of Williams, and no action was taken on Hernandez's resolution.
