Buffalo, NY – SUNY Chancellor John Ryan is asking for more state funding on top of what Governor Spitzer is recommending in his proposed state budget.
At a legislative hearing Thursday, Ryan said Spitzer's increase is a good start but that more is needed to fund the university system's growth. He's seeking $100 million more.
Ryan presented a list of what he called "unmet needs." He says more money could be used to hire additional faculty and to recruit researchers. Ryan also wants to establish an Office of Diversity and Educational Equity.
Spitzer proposed a nearly $150 million increase in funding for the State University of New York.
"Qe hope this is only the beginning of the discussion," Ryan said.
