Buffalo, NY – An Erie County Grand Jury voted Friday to indict accused bike path killer Altemio Sanchez on three murder counts.
Two of the charges relate to the death of University at Buffalo student Linda Yalem, 22, who was raped and murdered along the Ellicott Creek Bike Path in 1990. The third charge involves the 1992 rape-killing of Majane Mazur, 32, of Buffalo.
Investigators, meanwhile, continued to seek additional evidence that would tie Sanchez to last fall's murder of Joan Diver, 45, of Clarence. They say Sanchez's DNA was found on the steering column of Diver's vehicle, but not on Diver's body.
"There is not sufficient evidence at this time," Clark said. "That is an investigation which is ongoing."
Clark said the formal indictments against Sanchez will be handed up early next week.
Sanchez appeared at a brief court hearing Friday that was subsequently canceled because of the grand jury proceedings.
"He's physically and mentally exhausted," his attorney, Andrew LoTempio said.
