Buffalo, NY – The City of Buffalo has unveiled a new police initiative to begin a crack down on crime. It is based on the success of last year's Operation Strike Force.
Mayor Byron Brown, along with top leaders from the Buffalo Police Department, announced the formation of the Mobile Response Unit. The program is designed after Operation Strike Force. It was implemented for 100-days last year targeting quality of life crimes and violent criminal activity, like illegal guns.
But Mayor Brown says the crime program has been stepped up and now becomes permanent. City leaders would not say what areas will be targeted. But a list of so called hotspots will be developed. 24 city cops will make up the force, that includes four lieutenants and two police detectives. The Mayor says the safety and protection of residents is a top priority.
