Andolina Visits Seriously Wounded Partner

By Mark Wozniak

Buffalo, NY – The two Buffalo police officers wounded Tuesday night are both improving.

Officer Carl Andolina was released from the Erie County Medical Center, while his partner, Officer Patricia Parete, was upgraded to serious condition. She remains in the hospital's trauma intensive care unit.

Andolina was released even though a bullet remains lodged in his neck. Doctors say they want swelling around the wound to go down before they decide whether to remove the bullet.

Buffalo Police Commissioner H. McCarthy Gipson says Andolina stopped to visit his partner before leaving the hospital.

"The first thing he wanted to do was visit Officer Parete," Gipson said. "He did that before he left the hospital. He had a chance to talk with her. It was a very emotional (visit) for him."

Gipson added that he told Andolina to take some time off to recuperate, but the officer is indicating he wants to return to duty.

Meanwhile, Officer Parete's family released the following statement:

"The family and friends of Buffalo Police Officer Patty Parete would like to thank all of her fellow officers and friends for their overwhelming acts of kindness and generosity during this difficult time. Patty is, and continues to be, appreciative of the positive energy and prayers that have been bestowed upon her, her friends, and her family."
