Buffalo, NY – It's time to make out those Christmas cards. And what better way to do it than by spreading joy - and hope - with cards designed by the kids at Roswell Park. WBFO's Joyce Kryszak has more on the Paint box project that raises hope and money for cancer research.
"Life is a journey that can lead you to many wonderful places." That's the beautiful Christmas message from the littlest wise man and his camel pictured on one of these very special holiday cards.
The artists who designed them were only 11 years-old and 8 years-old at the time.
Jennifer Bronstein is a volunteer who works throughout the year with the children at art parties where the cards are designed. She said these children are her heroes and they never give up on one another.
The local business community is also joining in the fight. Several businesses donate their services or make the cards available at their locations for sale.
This year, the project welcomed Great Arrow Graphics. The publishing company works with hundreds of designers who create their line of cards and other products.
Alan Friedman is president of the company. He said the Roswell Park artists are by far their youngest designers - and some of the most popular at Christmas. He said the children's designs are always in the top ten of the cards they sell.
Friedman said the Paint Box cards are also making Christmas cards popular once again in an email age when fewer are usually sold.
Royalties earned by the young artists go to cancer research. Great Arrow also donates five to ten percent of the card sales. The cards can be purchased in many local stores and on line at paintboxproject.com.
