Radio Traffic Reporter, Former Amherst Supervisor Jack Sharpe Dies

By Mark Wozniak

Buffalo, NY – A Buffalo broadcasting pioneer and prominent local politician has died. Jack Sharpe was the first helicopter traffic reporter in Buffalo, starting in April 1959 for the old WEBR Radio in Buffalo.

After the helicopter reports were discontinued for budgetary reasons in 1974, Sharpe turned his attention to politics, and served as Amherst town supervisor for 14 years.

Jack Sharpe has inducted into the Buffalo Broadcasting Hall of Fame in 1999.

He died Sunday at his Florida home, at the age of 80.
