Lake Effect Snow Ties Up Traffic

By News Staff

Buffalo, NY – Tuesday morning's commute was much easier than the drive home Monday, when heavy lake effect snow severely reduced visibility and caused slippery road conditions.

Untreated roads Monday quickly became treacherous. Accidents involving two tractor trailers on the ramp from the Mainline Thruway to the 190 tied up traffic for miles.

Five and a half inches of snow were recorded at the airport weather station in Cheektowaga as of 12:30 Tuesday morning. Other snowfall totals include eight inches in the Chautauqua County community of Casadaga, six-and-a-half inches in Lancaster, six inches in East Aurora, five-and-a-half inches in Lockport and four inches in Tonawanda.

The lake effect snow settled well south of Buffalo in ski country and were forecast to taper off Tuesday afternoon.
