Lake Effect Snow Headed Buffalo's Way

By Mark Scott

Buffalo, NY – The National Weather Service has posted a lake effect snow warning Monday night for Buffalo and its suburbs.

The warning takes effect at 6:00 Monday evening and will continue through 9 Tuesday morning. Forecasters say a band of heavy lake effect snow will set up in the Southtowns and will move north into the city, accumulating six to 12 inches before the snow tapers off tomorrow morning.

The snow band could reach into southern Niagara and Orleans Counties and western Genesee County where lake snow advisories are in effect for lesser accumulations.

A snowfall well south of Buffalo Monday morning contributed to a multi-vehicle accident on the I-90 and a two-hour delay in the opening of Jamestown schools. Snowfall totals ranged four inches in the Chautauqua County community of Cherry Hill to an inch in East Aurora.
