Buffalo, NY – Clean up and tree recovery efforts continue within the city's Olmsted Parks system. The parks are open, but some sections are still unsafe for park goers.
Of the 12,000 trees within all of Olmsted's historic parks, parkways and circles in Buffalo, 90 percent were affected by October's surprise storm. The parks are open, but the clearing of debris is still underway.
Olmsted's public relation's manager Joy Testa Cinquino says there are also some sections of Delaware, Cazenovia and South Parks that remain unsafe.
All the parks' golf courses will remain closed until the Spring because of the amount of damage. Hundreds of volunteers along with FEMA offered cleanup assistance within the Olmsted system. Cinquino says they still have not tallied up the cost of all the damage. While the landscape within the parks will look somewhat different in the spring, so will the parkways, such as Bidwell, Chapin and Lincoln, once lined with a canopy of trees. But Cinquino says there will be replanting.
Tuesday night at Solider's Circle, a special community holiday tree lighting will be held at 6:00.
