Buffalo, NY – Regionalism advocate Kevin Gaughan is challenging town and village governments in Erie County to downsize their legislative bodies. This follows the release of a report he put together that found the various governments in the county have ten times the number of politicians as comparable regions.
Gaughan says 439 elected officials throughout Erie County cost taxpayers more than $32 million a year. With funding from the Oshei Foundation, Gaughan worked with student researchers from UB's School of Law to put together the report.
Wednesday night, he held a public meeting in Buffalo where he issued his challenge to town and village governments to cut back on the size of their respective legislative bodies.
Gaughan joined WBFO's Mark Scott on the phone from his Buffalo office to talk more about this. Click the "listen" icon above to hear the interview now or use your podcasting software to download it to your computer or iPod.
